Test Shots at night

Before I started filming outside and thinking about what type of camera I was going to use, I decided to go outside with Jorge during the night to film some footage. I wanted to do this as filming during the night isn't always good quality. I also wanted to take the oportunity to pactice with different shots and see which ones worked best.

I made this video a long time ago when I started working with my project at the start of the school year. At first I only feature Jorge because my music video idea is to just film him, but you'll realise that half through the video I start turning the camera round and recording myself and thats when the "vlog" type of video came to my head, so we kept recording that way. At that time it was about 12 at night and really cold and the way we were wearing big puffy jackets made it kind of "funny", so I also thought that was a good idea to include in my final music video (us being funny). At the end I started singing and speaking to Jorge and the final idea came to my head: making a vlog style video. I think this would be very effective as the audience won't be able to hear us speaking, but the music on top will reflect the mood. My song "Ribs" constantly repeats the phrase "you're the only friend I need" and I think that will make the video more understandable in terms of the visuals and relatable to the audience.

After recording this footage I realised the street lights made the image very organgy and there was a big contrast between high key lighting and low key lighting. I used a proper Canon camera, so putting the flash on wasn't really an option. In general I don't like how it looks at night and I think the whole purpose of making a vintage wholesome video is that there is sunlight and the audience can percieve warmth.
