Trying different filters to film

Since I wanted to include vintage footage in my music video I thought about 3 options: buy a vintage camera, film with a good Nikon camera and then create a filter by editing it in or use an Instagram filter.

I came to the conclusion that Instagram has infinite filters to use and I can access them from my phone, much cheaper than buying a vintage camera. So for this post I decided to select 5 filters and filmed Jorge.

I filmed during...:

- Daylight (As it is an Instagram filter you can't tap on the screen to focus the image if there is too much sunlight, the person just appears white. So I needed to test out which ones were easier to film with all the sunlight problems).

During the video you'll see we went to buy a "roscon de reyes" as it is Christmas, I took the opportunity to film us on the way home.

- Artificial lights (During filming we will probably go into an establishment with bright artificial lights, as the sunlight is a problem as I explained previously, maybe the filter reacts different under this type of light and is easier to focus on, so I had to try filming there).

In this case, Jorge and I go to a mall. I filmed just one short video inside for each one of the filters.

- Night (Lastly I wanted to film at night as I need to use flash to be able to see the other person, as well as the bright sunlight, flash can sometimes make it difficult to focus so I took a few shots for each filter as well)

We also tried speaking to each other during the video to also see what effect it would create with the music on top.

Here is the video I made putting all the videos together:
(after watching the video, scroll down to read my conclusions)
Conclusions I made:

Filter 1: Date Filter
ree

I found out this filter also edited your face and made your cheeks reddish. I don't like it edited our face and changed it so I won't be using this filter. At first at liked it because it includes the date below to one side but the numbers aren't the same font as a real vintage camera.

In general, I give this filter a 3/10.

Probably won't be using it

Filter 2: Disposable
ree

I really like this filter as it perfectly imitates a disposable camera, but during the daylight, it looks weird. During the nighttime, the filter looks the best, even with flash. I think that at night it looks greenish and captures the essence of the disposable camera, but during the day the green mixes with the orange tones and doesn't look as good.

This is my second-best option, if I finally decide to only film at night I will use this filter, I give it an 8/10.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Filter 3: Sharpness
ree

I hated this filter because the sharpness is too intense and makes our faces look really bad and grainy. Under artificial light, it looks even worse but at night for some reason, it looks decently good.

I won't be using this filter at all, 2/10.

Filter 4: Soft Sharpness
ree

This filter is similar to the previous one but has less sharpness. I don't necessarily dislike this one but it isn't the best. During daylight, it enhances our skin and doesn't make us look bad like in the previous one. It is also quite a natural filter which I don't want, I want to make it obvious there's a filter.

7/10.

Filter 5: Winner and Chosen FIlter
ree

I really really like this filter. It makes us looks good, the tones are warm and it has a grain that also makes it looks vintage. I wasn't able to film during the daylight but when we took pictures with the flash they looked very 90's. At night this filter doesn't look the best so I will probably just film during the day.

9/10

In conclusion, I found out that the best filters were filters 3 and 5. I will use filter 3 if I only film during the night and filter 5 if I film only during the day. I think that at most I will film a sun set it I use filter 5.
